You may have noticed that the school carpark has been coned off before and after school. We have debated this change for a while and after a number of close calls the Board of Trustees made the decision to close the carpark during these busy times to try and ensure the health and safety of our tamariki.
The drop off zone in the carpark has proven to be too small and this has resulted in people pulling into and backing out of carparks, dropping children off in the middle of the carpark and entering through the exit. These issues have resulted in children walking behind cars that are backing up, ducking between moving vehicles and walking on the road section, all in a bid to access an entry gate.
The Board of Trustees has approached the Ministry of Education and Auckland Transport to try and find a solution to these to this problems.
In the meantime there is plenty of parking along the roadside between the Kea Crossing and the Waiheke High School. If you are just dropping off in the morning (i.e. driver remaining in the vehicle) the bus bay is a safe ‘Drop of Zone’ with a school access gate next to the dental clinic. The Kea Crossing is still the safest location to cross the road and we would encourage you and your tamariki to use it.
Please remember that these changes are all in a bid to try and keep all our children (and parents) safe during a very busy time during the day.
