The Waiheke Pool Society is looking for a new Chairperson and new Committee Members to join an already vibrant and dedicated team.
The current Chairperson, Delyth Morgan-Coghlan has stood down from the role as of 29th April, after 5 years of service.
The aims of the Society are to continue to work on making swimming and aquatic activities accessible for all the community.
In 2018 they raised $80,000 to cover the Te Huruhi Pool and install heat pumps, which means that the pool would be usable for longer each year. As a result of the project the Pool Society agreed a lease of the Pool from the Ministry of Education – contracted Swimgym to operate the facility on behalf of the community and saw new Adult learn to swim classes, swim for fitness classes, family swimming times and adult lane swimming added to the calendar. The children’s learn to swim classes were also fully booked throughout the season with a wait-list on hand!
For the next three years the Pool Society aims to build on this foundation by increasing access for the community for more hours each day and for an extended summer season from October to the end of April. Whilst the long term vision would be for a brand new indoor aquatic facility the Society are realistic about doing whatever they can to improve on the current pool including better equipment, shade and shelter, improving visitor experience and assessing the options for an indoor facility alongside community and business partners.
The role of Chairperson would suit a person with a passion for swimming and experience in leisure facility management and leading community projects.
The role of committee members is to support the Chairperson, add experience and ideas to the current team, support all members in achieving up-coming goals; be it fundraising events, lodging grant applications or seeing a project through to completion.
We look forward to hearing from anyone who shares the same passion we do! If you wish to know more about the role of Chairperson or join the committee, please email: [email protected]
