School Holiday Programme at the Library

Hi everyone,

We’re getting ready at Waiheke Library for an awesome Matariki July school holiday programme, and we look forward to seeing you there! Our theme this time is:

Taku taiao, Taku tuakiri – My identity, My environment

See below for details, no bookings required, just turn up on the day.

  • Hidden Growth and Hanging Gardens
  • Wednesday 14 July 2pm – 3:30pm

This is an opportunity to get creative planting terrific terrariums and miniature worlds exploring Tupuānuku (earth) Tupuārangi, (trees/ birds) and Waitī (freshwater).

  • STEAMPlay: Go Elemental!
  • Thursday 22 July 2pm – 3:30pm

This is one of our popular STEAM circuits. On this circuit we will experiment & get creative exploring wind, rain & sea with Ururangi (Wind), Waipunarangi (rain) and Waitā (sea).

  • Wonders of Future Past
  • Friday 23 July 2pm – 3:30pm

This is an invitation to explore the Wonders of Future Past to play, make, discover, take a trip from now to then and back again with Hiwa-i-te-rangi, Pōhutukawa and Matariki.

  • Makerspace
  • This will still take place on Sundays 11, 18 & 25 July between 10:30am – 12 noon.

Makerspace is an opportunity to get creative tinkering, making and building, and is aimed at ages 5-13.

You can also view our event listings on our Facebook page @waihekelibrary.

Throughout the holidays we will also have activities that you can do anytime you come into the library – including a scavenger hunt, a Matariki booklet and activity packs with origami jumping frogs and Woven Stars which can be taken home or used in the library.

And finally, there’s also an online challenge set up in Beanstack – the app we used in the Summer Holidays. Beanstack is a tool you can use to keep track of all the books you read as well as giving you the opportunity to participate in fun reading challenges. The Matariki challenge includes information about the nine stars and a set of activities for each. Only one activity in each set needs to be completed to collect the nine badges.

So we’re getting ready at the library to explore the the many themes of Matariki these holidays, with

Taku taiao, Taku tuakiri – My identity, My environment

and we look forward to seeing you there!

Ngā mihi,

Rhiannon
