Kia ora kura whānau,
I am writing today with some very exciting news. Firstly though, I want to thank you so much for the patience you have shown whilst we find a new Principal for Te Huruhi. I know how unsettling change can be, but due to unforeseen circumstances at the end of 2021, we were given short notice to recruit for this pivotal role.
We were incredibly fortunate to secure Rob Callaghan as our Acting Principal for Term 1 of this year. He is a hugely experienced and well respected leader, and I speak on behalf of all the staff and the board when I say a very sincere thanks to him for the amazing job he has done for us.
However, Rob’s home is in Christchurch, and we always knew he was only here to support us while we hunted for the best possible tumuaki.
It is with great pleasure that I announce that after an extensive process, the School Board has appointed Kate Surgison as our new Principal. Kate comes to us from Takapuna Normal Intermediate School, where she is currently Acting Principal. Kate has a wealth of passion and vision, with a focus on performing arts, te ao Māori, digital, and very importantly: hauora. The board feels she is an excellent fit for Te Huruhi, and we cannot wait to welcome her into our kura and for her to meet our tamariki. She starts on June 7th, and we are lucky enough to have a handover period between herself and Rob, who leaves on June 17th.
Once again, thanks to the community for your patience, and thanks to our fabulous kaiako for bearing with the changes. We are delighted to start this new chapter for our wonderful school.
As always, please get in touch if you have any questions, on [email protected].
Kia ora rawa atu
