Welcome to Akoranga Rua
Kia ora koutou,
Nau mai haere mai. We would like to warmly welcome you all to Waka Rua.
We are Whaea Fhi and Whaea Greta. We are passionate about tamariki experiencing a broad and balanced curriculum – arts, science, te reo māori, sports, reading, writing, maths and much more. We believe tamariki should LOVE learning.
Our whakataukī is: He waka eke noa. We are all in this together.
Communication: We have split students into two guardian groups called Obsidian and Kryptonite. Feel free to email us if you have any questions or to give us a heads up on anything you feel we need to know about your child. If you would like to meet with one of us, please send us an email to arrange a suitable time. We will attempt to respond to your email promptly, however please understand this may take up to 48 hours.
Obsidian: [email protected]
Kryptonite: [email protected]
Class Blog: We update the class blog regularly with lots of photos and the best bits from our learning. You can find it here https://thswi.blogspot.
Litter-less Lunches: Te Huruhi is going for our Green/Gold Enviro award this year – very exciting! In order to achieve this, we need to be committed as a school to reducing our plastic waste. Please endeavour to send your child with a litter-less lunch – reusable plastic containers are a great idea. Thank you for helping your child to make a difference to our Waiheke environment.
Extra school opportunities for students: Tamariki in Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take on responsibilities and leadership positions. These include being a Peer Supporter, Pupil Councillor, Enviro-agent, PE Monitor and Librarians. It’s great for the children to get these experiences. They are rewarded at the end of the year with “The Big Day in” – a day of sport, fun and fish and chips!
Garden to Table: This is an awesome programme for our Year 4s and 5s where they get to work in the garden and learn to cook kai every Tuesday morning. Waka Rua tamariki are participating in Term 1.
Parent Help: Do you have a talent that you would like to share with us? Come and let us know – we know you are a talented group of parents and the tamariki could really benefit from your expertise.
Ngā mihi nui,
Whaea Fhi and Whaea Greta
